Some of the stories of catholic clergy helping nazis killing Jews during the war are horrendous, and parts of the hierarchy in some countries, like France, got their hands very dirty. However, I’m reminded of a story from a friend who grew up with a catholic mother and a Jewish father in Alsace. She told me that when the US forces came to Alsace in 1944/45 her mother’s catholic family helped German soldiers or people on the run ( for whatever reason, they didn’t ask) to hide, during the occupation they did the same thing with Jews and people from the resistance. In both cases it was about fulfilling their duties as Catholics, helping people without asking questions. A kind of pre-political stance I guess. I wonder if the some the stories of monasteries hiding war criminals after the war, was because of the same a-political naïveté ( ?).

There are two "types" of Baptism; actual Baptism & Baptism of Desire, subdivided into explicit & implicit desire. Clearly, Muslims have no explicit desire for Baptism based upon their tenets leaving them implicit desire. But there are several conditions within implicit desire which may make it beyond reach. Also, the unbaptized can be more easily are more easily fooled by Satan. The lack of Baptism does not prohibit their salvation but it makes it much more difficult. Which is why we are called to evangelization.
